Newcomers Judged by Arjun Nambiar and our exciting and fun Knockout Competition judged by members.

We have had some fantastic images from Newcomers in recent years raising the Clubs standards and introducing some refreshing new genres of photography. What will new members bring to the table?

Our Knockout competition is a great fun evening where members choose from two images shown together. Which is your favourite Left or Right? Groans of despair when two excellent images are shown together, and you are voting one out!

Mark a previous member of the club is a local photographer, designer of digital art. He will give a face to face presentation exploring different ways to enhance Urban Lighting. Using isolation, reflection, staggered zoom burst, defocusing, panning, low level light trails. With some lightroom editing tips to enhance the scenes.

Happy New Year 

Review images taken from Mark Hunters walking tour of Newcastle.

We will review images taken by members who can explain why they took that image, composition, editing etc. What did they learn from Mark’s presentation and put into practice on the photo walk? With a group discussion on the merits of the images and how (if at all) they could be improved.  An opportunity to learn in a safe place with perhaps a new genre of photography; something you haven’t tried before.

Saturday Sports Photo outing

A sports venue will be arranged to put into practice the information given by Michael Berekley. Watch this space for an update on venue and the time.  

Review sports images

Another mini project following a guest speakers presentation this time on sport. Were you able to utilise the information given by Michael Berekley to apply it out in the field? What angles, compositions or action shots did members get in our outing.

I always like a rebel!

A photo walk/photoshoot in Durham.

Members will follow a route around Durham taking images that would grace a Tourism Brochure showing Durham off to its best. Or plan a project inspired by Mark Bradshaw’s talk last year where you are looking for a particular theme. Remember his Apertures with door/window openings in a minimalistic style. Or when he chose Yellow as a theme and the images were only successful as a project and not as single images.

4 Way Prints competition

Second leg of the 4-way competition: We welcome members from Cramlington, Gateshead and Ponteland to compete this time showing prints. A change of our usual venue will be required due to an increase in audience numbers. The Duke of Wellington, Kenton Lane, Kenton NE3 3BQ.

Another opportunity to discuss images taken on this mini project on Travel. Constructive advice on the positives and negatives of the images. What style did you go for in representing this local City.

Pecha Kucha

A fun evening with members recruited to show 20 slides with each slide displayed for only 20 seconds. Sometimes 20 seconds is not enough time for the author to describe the image and other times it seems far too long as we wait for the next image to come up. A skill in presenting but don’t let that put you off, come on and volunteer.

Three individual images chosen to be displayed together to make the final image. What worked well and what didn’t in the judges opinion? The points are adding up for the season, is there an outright winner showing or is there everything to play for?
