MC2 Photography: YouTube behind the scenes

On Tuesday 13th September Ruth and Marcus from photography on-line (MC2photography.com) presented to us via zoom. The majority of us attended in person at the Duke of Wellington and shared the talk from the screen – a dozen or so more attended on zoom.

The presentation was an entertaining double act – very professional and engaging. They explained how their Youtube videos came about, their intent to be a Youtube photography ‘magazine’, and the team’s varied backgrounds working in tandem and very strongly as a team to produce videos which are of TV programme quality and style, without advertising interruptions.

Meticulously planning, scriptwriting, attention to sound quality (excluding wind noise being a particular issue for their outdoor filming) and many other pitfalls were openly described.

The scriptwriting and making each presentation flow, with subtle background music was very similar to our recent summer school teaching from Ron Henry on making an AV!

What a shame that Ruth and Marcus could not hear the laughter in the room as their humour was well received – this is a drawback of presenting over zoom: presenters work to their own screen – leaving the microphone open in the pub becomes irritating background noise unfortunately.

Ruth and Marcus stayed for a generous question and answer session – again with great honesty and openness.

We had a great evening, fun and instructional; it passed in a flash. I have little doubt that many of us will view their videos in the future – it turns out that several members had already discovered MC2photography.
